On Thursday April 14, 2016, just before 3:00 p.m., San Angelo Police Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of E. 18th and Oakes Street.

Responding Officers were directed to a residence in the 700 block of E. 18th where they located evidence that gunfire penetrated the residence but did not injure any of the occupants. A dog that was outside the residence and struck by the gunfire was later euthanized at the scene by an Animal Control Officer.

Detectives with the San Angelo Police department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and determined an unknown person(s) fired shots towards the residence and then fled the scene in an SUV type vehicle.

Investigators believe the incident is not random and may be gang related. This is an ongoing investigation and no other information can be released at this time.

A 32-year-veteran San Angelo Police Officer was injured early this morning following a major vehicle crash with entrapment at Humble Road and U.S. Hwy 87 North. The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m.

52-year-old Police Sergeant Fred Dietz, Jr. was traveling westbound on Humble Rd. and stopped at the stop sign before the crash occurred. At some point, Dietz proceeded from the stop in an attempt to cross U.S. Hwy 87 when a utility truck that was traveling northbound in the right lane collided with Dietz's vehicle.

The force of the collision caused Dietz's unmarked, white-colored 2010 Dodge Charger to pivot around and continue to travel across northbound traffic lanes and into the median towards the west side of U.S. HWY 87. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and Dietz's front airbag deployed.

Dietz was extricated from his vehicle by San Angelo Fire Department personnel and transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of incapacitating injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries, Dietz was subsequently flown to a trauma care facility in the Dallas.

The utility truck's driver, a 36-year-old resident of San Angelo and employee of Concho Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc., was not injured during the crash. The 2015 Freightliner has an estimated gross weight of 52,940 lbs.

Several Patrol Officers and Traffic Investigators responded to the scene to divert traffic and conduct an investigation. The Department also issued a Nixle alert to citizens to avoid traveling the area. At the conclusion of the field investigation, Dietz's failure to yield to oncoming traffic was determined to be a contributing factor to the crash and a citation for Failure to Yield the Right of Way will be issued. There is no indication at this time that the truck's driver was traveling at an excessive speed and he did not receive any citations. The posted speed limit along that section of U.S. HWY 87 is 55 MPH.

The San Angelo Police Department needs help identifying a suspect involved in a stolen vehicle pursuit.

On Saturday, April 2, 2016, at approximately 11:07 p.m., San Angelo Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 14th and Volney for a traffic violation but the vehicle's driver refused to stop. A short vehicle pursuit ensued and ended when the driver bailed out of the vehicle behind 79 E. 18th Street. The driver was last seen running east down the alley, then north on Henderson. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. The vehicle, a gold-colored 2008 GMC Yukon, was allegedly stolen thirty minutes prior to this incident.

During a search of the vehicle, Police located approximately 45 grams of Methamphetamine and just over a gram of Marijuana.

Other evidence recovered from the vehicle led police to believe the driver recently visited a West-To-Go Convenience Store. Officers responded the West-To-Go located at 7th and Chadbourne and obtained surveillance video of a subject that matched the description of the suspect who fled the pursuit. The video placed the suspect at the store around 11:01 p.m.

He was described as a Hispanic male, age early-to-mid 30's, approximately 5?6?-5?7?, approximately 200-210 lbs., tattoos covering both arms and his neck, short black hair, wearing a blue plaid shirt and blue jeans.

Around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of N. Adams Street for the report of a theft suspect who was being detained by the residents.

Upon arrival, Officers spoke with a resident who said his son woke him up to alert him about a man who was attempting to steal their truck and that he and his son went outside to confront and detain the man with a pipe until they arrived.

Officers detained and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Gabriel Reel. Reel smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. Reel confirmed the residents? statements and told the Officers he only wanted to take the truck because he lived far away and needed a ride home.

During the investigation, Reel was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia as well as several items that matched the description of items reported stolen from a vehicle burglary that occurred earlier that morning in the 300 block of N. Van Buren Street.

During his subsequent arrest, Reel spit on one Officer. Reel also spat inside the patrol unit during his transport to jail and refused to exit the patrol unit upon arrival at the jail. Reel was eventually extricated from the patrol unit by force and taken into custody by Jail Staff.

Reel was charged with Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Public Intoxication, Harassment of a Public Servant, and his outstanding Arrest Warrants. Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the Van Buren Vehicle Burglary investigation.

Seven suspects have been charged in connection to last week's fatal shooting that left two San Angelo teens dead.

On Thursday, March 31, 2016, 18-year-old Eric Ramos was booked into the Tom Green County Jail, charged with Murder in connection to the homicides of 17-year-old Juan Guerrero and 16-year-old Zane Lopez that occurred last Saturday evening. Two additional adult males, 17-year-old Fred Angel Garcia and 18-year-old Giliberto Reyes were taken into custody and booked early this morning; both men have been charged with Murder. In addition to the arrested adults, four male juvenile suspects have been apprehended and charged with the murders. The juveniles were taken into custody on Thursday and were booked into the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center. Their names are not being released.

These arrests came as a result of an investigation that began on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 9:46 p.m., when Officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 1100 block of E. 22nd Street.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located Guerrero and Lopez suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene and Lopez was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. Lopez later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff around 9:32 p.m. last night. Lopez's body was transported to Lubbock this morning for autopsy.

Members of the San Angelo Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division has continued to work tirelessly since the fatal shootings of Guerrero and Lopez, obtaining statements and forensic evidence which resulted in the probable cause to arrest Ramos, Garcia, Reyes, and the four juveniles for the charge of Murder.

This investigation is still ongoing and no further information is available for release at this time.
