Jeremy Michael Herrera was charged with Aggravated Kidnapping in connection to an incident that occurred Saturday evening in the parking lot of Giz and Hums located at 1425 W Beauregard.

San Angelo Police were called to the location around 11:30 p.m. for the report of an unknown problem. When they arrived, they met with a complainant who told them his 16-year-old nephew had been taken at knifepoint by an acquaintance.

During the investigation, Police learned Herrera was enroute to the Desert Shadow Apartments with the victim. Police responded to the area, located Herrera and detained him.

Detectives with the San Angelo Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and learned Herrera and several acquaintances were in the Giz and Humz parking lot earlier in the evening when Herrera discovered money was missing from his vehicle. Herrera accused the victim of taking the money, forced the victim into a vehicle at knifepoint, and drove the victim to an area near Lake Nasworthy where he threatened him at knifepoint. When Herrera did not locate the alleged stolen money, he drove the victim to the Desert Shadow Apartment Complex. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Herrera was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident. He remains jailed on $100,000 bond.

Two young children were injured Friday evening in two separate incidents that occurred inside an apartment and parking lot of the Vistas at Red Creek Apartments, 5751 Green Hill.

San Angelo Police were dispatched to the complex around 7:30 p.m. for reports of a child struck by a vehicle and a child shooting-victim. Once on scene, Officers located a 7-year-old male gunshot victim and a 5-year-old male that had been struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. During the field investigation, Officers learned these two seemingly separate incidents were connected.

Investigators soon learned the 7-year-old gunshot victim allegedly shot himself in the leg while playing with a handgun inside an apartment. The boy gained access to the handgun from his father, 26-year-old Andrew Crittenden, who told police he thought the gun had been emptied of live rounds before he handed the gun to his son. It was also learned that Crittenden accidentally struck a 5-year-old male victim in the parking lot when he attempted to transport his injured son to the hospital by private vehicle. Traffic investigators later determined the child ran out into the passenger's side of Crittenden's 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck while Crittenden was attempting to exit apartment complex.

Crittenden's son was transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance, treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, and later released. The 5-year-old was transported to San Angelo Community Medical Center, treated for minor injuries, and released.

Detectives with the Department's Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Investigations Section, and Child Protective Services responded to assist with the investigation.

Crittenden was later charged with Endangering a Child-Criminal Negligence and transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.

On Monday March 28, 2016, the San Angelo Police Department will be hosting the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training.

This presentation is designed to help civilians understand what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training, designed and built on the AVOID, DENY, DEFEND strategy developed by ALERT, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of law enforcement, and civilian response options.

The training will be held at Central High School's Sarah Bernhardt Theatre located at 655 Caddo Street. The training will begin at 7:00 pm and last approximately one hour. There is no need to register to attend this training. This training will be open to the public ages 16 and older and is free.

In reference to the homicide that occurred this afternoon at the Rockbrook Apartments, the victim has been identified as 58 year old Jerry Don Barr.

After the initial investigation of Barr's death, the suspect, 28 year old Thomas Gene Riddle, has been charged with Murder.

There is no other information available at this time. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.

Today, March 19, 2016, at 4:20 pm, San Angelo Police responded to the Rockbrook Apartments for an assault victim. When Police arrived, Officers met with a witness who stated her boyfriend had been assaulted inside their apartment. Officers entered the apartment and located a 58 year old white male deceased inside the apartment.

Officers learned from the witness she had seen the suspect leaving the area when she was on her way home. The witness provided a description of the suspect. Based on the description, Officers were able to locate the suspect walking on Houston Harte near Olive Garden. The suspect, a 28 year old white male, was taken into custody without incident. It was later learned the suspect was the son of the witness.

Detective Jason Chegwidden and Detective Michael Gaeta responded to the apartments to investigate. Detective Chegwidden is the lead investigator for this case. The cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma, but the cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.

The names of the victim and the suspect are not being released at this time pending further investigation and notification of the victim's next of kin. There is no other information available for release at this time. More information will be released when it is available in a subsequent press release.
