Press Release #091715(17)-Victim in Shooting on N. Sellers has Died

The victim of the shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of August 31, 2015 in the 500 block of N Sellers has died.

 

The victim, 69 year old William Valdez, died on September 15, 2015 at approximately 5:30 pm.  An autopsy was ordered by Justice of the Peace Kay Longest.

 

Further charges against the four suspects who have been arrested in the shooting, Fernando Lavaris Jr, Eliza Losoya, Jonathan Jesse Marin, and Eric J. Martinez, are pending the results of the autopsy and further investigation.

 

There is no other information available for release at this time.

Press Release #091615(16)-TPCA Set to Induct San Angelo Police Chief as Next President at Upcoming C

The Texas Police Chiefs Association will induct San Angelo Police Chief Tim Vasquez as the Organization's 57th President at the Texas Municipal League Conference slated for late September in San Antonio, Texas.

 

Vasquez is the second Hispanic Police Chief to hold the position for the Association, which was founded in 1958 to promote, encourage and advance the professional development of the Chiefs of Police and senior police management personnel throughout the State of Texas.  

 

Prior to this seat, Vasquez served the TPCA as the Organization's First, Second, and Third Vice President, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms, and Region 6 Director.  Vasquez is the first Police Chief from San Angelo voted to the elected board.

 

The ceremony will take place during the TPCA Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Marriott Plaza San Antonio located at 555 South Alamo Street in San Antonio, Texas.

Press Release #091615(15)-Man Arrested for Improper Visual Recording

A San Angelo man, 30 year old Brandon Berry, was arrested yesterday, September 15, 2015, on a warrant stemming from an investigation of Improper Visual Recording.

 

On September 11, 2015, San Angelo Police were contacted about a juvenile victim who stated she had been video recorded without her knowledge while she was in the shower.  Detective Jeremy Cannady was contacted to conduct an investigation.  Through his investigation, it was learned the suspect was Brandon Berry.  Detective Cannady was able confirm the video had been taken.

 

A warrant was issued for Berry's arrest for Improper Photography or Visual Recording on September 15, 2015.  He was located in the 4400 block of S Chadbourne around 11:00 am on the same day and taken into custody without incident.

 

The investigation is still ongoing and there is no other information available for release at this time.

Press Release #091615(14)-Two Face Drug Charges after Vader Makes Astral Discovery

Two San Angelo residents are facing drug charges after an SAPD Service Dog alerted Officers during a recent traffic stop.

 

On Monday, September 14, 2015, just before 10:00 p.m., San Angelo Police stopped a white 1993 Ford Expedition in the 700 block of E. 22nd Street for traffic violations.

 

During the stop, police identified the driver, Willie Lloyd, Jr. (DOB 12-21-57), and passenger, Aletha M. Rose (DOB 08-10-61).  During a records search, Rose was identified as having an outstanding County Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. 

 

Police K9 Supervisor Chris Cimino and Police Service Dog Vader were called to the scene to assist.  Vader conducted an open-air 'sniff? of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the presence of contraband. 

 

Officers then conducted a Probable Cause Search and located approximately 3.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine inside Lloyd's pocket.  The substance field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine.  Police also located approximately 2.6 grams of marijuana from underneath the front passenger's seat. 

 

Lloyd was issued a Citation for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance and charged with Felony 2 Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance.  Rose was charged with Class A Possession of Marijuana.  Both were transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.

Press Release #091515(13)-Fourth Suspect Arrested in N. Sellers Shooting

Just after 2:00 p.m. yesterday, the San Angelo Police Department's Special Operations Section observed Eric J. Martinez (DOB 09-08-89) as a passenger traveling in a white Buick LeSabre in the area of 17th St. and N. Bryant Blvd.  Martinez was the subject of an Arrest Warrant issued last week for his involvement in the shooting incident that occurred in late August on N. Sellers St. that left a 69-year-old San Angelo man in grave condition.

 

Patrol Units assisted with a traffic stop of the vehicle and Martinez was taken into custody without incident.  He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit other Felony.  The vehicle's driver was released at the scene.

 

The three other suspects previously arrested, Fernando Lavaris Jr. (DOB 06-19-86), Eliza [AKA Lisa] Losoya (DOB 02-23-87), and Jonathan Jesse Marin (DOB 02-28-89) remain in the Tom Green County Jail on the same charge. 

 

Detectives James Hernandez and Jason Chegwidden are the lead Investigators for this Case.
