San Angelo Police Officer arrested by DPS, charged with DWI during Traffic Stop

Just after 12:56 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2024, San Angelo Police Detective James Hernandez was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for Driving While Intoxicated 2nd by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

 

A Trooper with the Texas DPS conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was being driven by Det. Hernandez which resulted in the arrest of 54-year-old for the charge of Driving While Intoxicated 2nd.  Further inquiries regarding the arrest should be directed to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

 

Subsequent to this arrest, the San Angelo Police Department has opened a formal internal investigation with the Office of Professional Standards.

 

Hernandez, a seventeen-year veteran of the San Angelo Police Department, was off duty when the incident occurred.
