ATTENDED ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING ON 04/11/16 AT CSCD. THIS WAS THE MOST USEFUL TRAINING I HAVE ATTENDED IN RECENT MEMORY. OFFICER UPTON IS OBVIOUSLY PASSIONATE ABOUT COMMUNITY POLICING AND WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC, AND REFLECTS THAT IN HIS PERSONAL APPEARANCE, DEMEANOR AND THE PROFESSIONAL MANNER IN WHICH HE PRESENTED THE MATERIAL. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRESENTATION WITHOUT RESERVATION. THANK YOU TO THE S.A.P.D. COMMAND STRUCTURE FOR PERMITTING OFFICER UPTON THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE THIS TRAINING.

I would like to commend Officer Faz. It has been a long time since he was on a call I had to make and I was not aware we could do this.
He showed up and made sure both parties were ok and was being very attentive to body movements and his surroundings-as well as mine.
I could tell he cared and he went above and beyond what his duties were.
Thanks Officer Faz!

To Officer Pollitt, The officer responded to a nonemergency call, and took down and listen to my information but I have to relate. I sincerely appreciate him and his sincerity on the job. I would highly thank HIM, for being such an upstanding officer.
I also would like to say that he was outstanding where is personality and just everything was all good and he took care of business.
Personal message to Officer Pollitt: I hope I do not have to see you anytime soon but at least I know you're there and you're doing your job thank you big thank you!!!

I have forgotten.
I can't remember the name of the officer who arrested me for P.I. a couple of months ago, but I wished to commend the officer for the professional, clear and even courteous way in which he treated me. I was unable to pay the fine in time and know that there is a warrant for my arrest. I am in Dallas taking care of a close relative who will soon go to heaven. When I have attended the funeral, may I simply come back to San Angelo and turn myself in for the time necessary to pay the fine?
Thanks again for being a testimony for police officers who do consistently face danger and still maintain an attitude of respect and fairness.

Laura Washington with Victims Assistance/Crime Prevention under the supervision of Sergeant Salazar
Having been a victim of multiple incidents of abuse and trauma throughout my life, I have a difficult time feeling safe with people. Most people are apathetic to experiences or needs outside of their own. So, when I cross paths with a person who seems to defy the norm, I think it is important to acknowledge that person.
My call for assistance was redirected to Laura Washington. She listened compassionately to my concerns and did what she could to validate my feelings. Laura promptly followed up regarding any return calls, diligently looked up and verified program information, and worked hard to communicate key points despite my stressed communication at times.
Because of my disability, people often misinterpret my behavior, statements or intentions, but Laura was kind enough to respectfully clarify, explain and question as needed. She was open to proposed solutions while she patiently reiterated what "is" and what "is not" feasible regarding her department without making me feel abandoned. She helped me feel like someone cared enough to try to help during a time of need. While I do not know Laura Washington personally, she seems like a valuable asset to the Victims Assistance/Crime Prevention unit within the San Angelo Police Department.

I want to thank all the men and women who took time out of their days to come and speak to us at the Citizens Police Academy about their jobs as Police Officers. They were all very interesting and gave us a lot of useful information about what goes on in their particular jobs. They showed their professionalism and love of the jobs they do. It was a great insight to some things that go on behind the scenes. With all the things going on in the national news I am amazed that anyone wants to do the job anymore. All the officers I spoke with talked about wanting to help the citizens out and their love for the job they do. Thank you for everything you do!!!

I support any PD in these times of constant persecution by our leaders and citizens. Please keep up the good work. Please express my thanks to the 2 officers. Greetings Chief Tim Vasquez,
Sir, I had the opportunity to meet your department's Sergeant Shah this afternoon at 1442 hrs at 1700 Edmund Blvd. I had exceeded the posted speed limit driving through the residential area posted at 30mph while in route to JP Precinct 3 Judge Buck's office. Your Sergeant executed all proper measures in stopping me and I entered the Baptist church's parking lot for further procedures. Your Sergeant was very professional, courteous and respectful. I was in the wrong and admitted it. No excuses, zero tolerance. He noticed my DV plates and inquired and I shortly explained the 3 Iraqi combat deployments I did between 2004 and 2006 and why I was 60% VA disabled. He commended me for my combat service and was grateful for former and current soldiers like me who fought to free the Iraqi people from a wicked inhumane dictator. Sergeant Shah should be recognized for his unselfish devotion to duty and his immaculate respect to citizens and veterans in his San Angelo area of operations.

I do overnight security for the Silver Spur Gun show when it is held at the Coliseum. On Saturday night either my cell phone wasn't receiving properly or I had disabled it. My wife calls through the night checking on me, on this occasion failing to raise me at 11:45 PM. After repeatedly trying to reach me until sometime just after 1:00 AM she resorted to calling the San Angelo Police Department on their non-emergency line. She was treated very cordially and helpfully, the dispatcher sending an officer to the Coliseum to check on me. This officer was also very courteous and friendly, displaying a helpful and concerned attitude. I was fine, blissfully unaware that the phone wasn't working but really grateful that the San Angelo police were helpful to allay my wife's concerns for me. The attitudes projected by both dispatch and the unknown officer who were both very professional and very heartwarming to experience. I feel like I have friends at the San Angelo Police Department who've "got my back" whenever I am doing the all-night security stint at the gun show.
Please let both dispatch and the officer on duty who came to the Coliseum at 1:00-1:30 AM Sunday morning know that their efforts are noticed and appreciated. You make a difference!

Officer Kolb was the second officer to stop by our group home residence at 236 Westwood after a mother had called the police. A consumer was upset and the mother, who has a history of accusing the group home of holding her son against his will called the police. My staff person was outside visiting with the consumer about the incident, his behavior program, etc. when Officer Kolb stopped. My staff person was highly complimentary of Officer Kolb and his interaction both with her and the consumer. She stated Officer Kolb followed her lead and counseled the consumer on his rights, living situation and consequences of not following rules, etc. and was very supportive of the group home and the consumer. Thanks for a job well done Officer Kolb.

Lt Mike Hernandez
To the San Angelo Police Department,
Our family would like to thank Lieutenant Mike Hernandez for his service on June 18, 2015. Our son, Jordan, was visiting San Angelo and had been there with friends who are enrolled in the University. While having all the fun that youngsters tend to have, Jordan dropped his cell phone in the pool and it never recovered. When it was time for him to make his way home, he missed his bus at the Greyhound station. Needless to say, his friends simply dropped him off thinking he was safe and sound. Having no way to contact anyone, Jordan drifted around waiting for the next bus. After 24 hours of no contact, his dad and I contacted the San Angelo Police Department. Lieutenant Mike Hernandez, answered our call and immediately took action. Honestly, I expected him to wait until the next day to start work on this case. But, when Jordan's friends called saying that they had spoken to Lt. Mike that same night, I felt hope. Later that night we did make contact Jordan and I left a message for Lt. Mike to inform him. The next day Lt. Mike called to make sure Jordan had made it home safely. San Angelo Police Department, I am sure is honored to have Lt. Mike on the squad. But as parents, we worry about our children and hope that the authorities care as much as we do. And, Lieutenant Mike showed us that he cares! Thanks, Mike, all the way from Allen, TX!!! I wanted to Thank him again for being kind, understanding and a little funny. He pulled me over for speeding. I really had no idea what the speed limit was at the time. Ive been working 2 jobs over 16 hours a day sometimes just to make ends meet. He gave me a warning and made my day a little brighter. In fact, he put a smile on my face with his friendliness and great personality and attitude. I feel like we all need a little help every once in a while. I wish I meet more policeman like him. Thank you again. I promise to obey all traffic laws.
PS. Can u please let him know that he is much appreciated for all he does.

Officer McAndrews came to my home after I called in a break in of my car. He got to my house very quickly after my call, took information, took fingerprints and was very courteous and professional. He was very attentive to detail and efficient. I told him that I hesitate to contact police because I know they have bigger fish to fry, but he was very encouraging for me to call if I see anything suspicious. He informed me of online reporting if I don't feel it is important enough to get an officer involved.
What A Nice Experience! I Greatly Appreciate San Angelo Police Officers. Just from common knowledge, I feel that we have the best, most dependable, best looking police force around. Thanks, guys for risking your lives for the protection of ordinary citizens. Officer McAndrews is one of the most professional, courteous and efficient officers in a super police department. That is saying a lot!

Earlier this evening there was a knock on my door. My wife opened the door to find Officer Hawthorne at our door step asking if she was our son Desmond's mother. My son Desmond who's 6th b-day happens to be tomorrow, had been in the front yard riding his power wheels police car when Officer Hawthorne drove by and noticed him. He stopped to talk to Des and let him get an up close and personal look at a real police cruiser. I was not home to witness this but as soon as I pulled into the driveway my son comes running up to tell me that he wants to be a police officer when he grows up. I would like to thank the officer for taking time out of his busy day to do such a random act of kindness.

Officer Montez along with his partner Alfred Rios handled a situation exceptionally well! The situation was an ongoing fiasco that involved departments from Abilene, Bronte, and Grape Creek, Texas. Each of those departments failed to follow proper procedure and were not aware of the procedures in place for their department. On the contrary, Officers Montez and Rios followed procedures, were fair, and handled the entire investigation with complete professionalism and expertise in their field. I am extremely proud of them and the San Angelo Police Department. I am proud to live in San Angelo, Texas and with officers like these two men, I, along with my family feel safe, protected and taken care.

I just want to say thanks for all the police department does. I know that there has been a lot of negative light on law enforcement lately, and I can only imagine how discouraging that must be. The fact you continue to protect and serve is highly commendable and all too often overlooked. Officer Griffin exemplifies goodness and positivity in the community. I've seen how interacts with members of the community and the children as well. I've seen him in various places, but also at Paul Ann Church. Officer Griffin serves as an example for us all.
As I grew up, we all wanted to be professional athletes or fireman/policemen. This theme seems to have changed somewhat as our newest generation grows up. I was excited to hear my own elementary age child comment that it would be awesome to be a policeman like Officer Griffin. I work with children all day long (as an elementary principal) and that statement shows Officer Griffin is representing your department well.

I work with our students who have intellectual disabilities and have a young man who is under the best circumstances challenging. This young man has an emotional disability and an intellectual disability and has been severely abused throughout his life. He has injured many staff members and is violent and often vulgar. Because of these circumstances not many people choose to interact with him. Officer Rodriguez has for over the last year built and maintained a very special relationship with this young person, and it is the absolute highlight of his day when he gets to visit with officer Rodriguez on Tuesdays when he is on duty here at Lincoln. I requested patrols be more present and vigilant in Paulann, in particular, the intersection of Gregory and Ricks. We have an increased problem with speeders and vehicles running that stop sign. Since more officers are making their presence known, cars seem to be slowing down a bit and actually stopping at the stop sign. Thanks to all who patrol our addition and make everyone safe.

I am visiting your fair city for a few days, work related. While driving through your town I was unaware of the speed limit in one section of the town. I was stopped and ticketed by Officer Dye for the speed.
I my prior life, I am a retired State Trooper for the State of Alaska. Whenever I come in contact with law enforcement I seem to still take notice of different things. First I would like to let you know Officer Dye was very professional as well as friendly. He found I was from out of town, but 14 mph over the limit was still going to get me a ticket. He explained everything politely and made sure I didn't feel like I was being singled out. Very nice interaction.
Additionally, his officer safety was excellent. Good approach to the car. I could see his eyes were checking all the right places, stayed in position during the entire contact never letting down his guard. Very good officer.
Please let him know I appreciate his consideration and a job well done. It's the little things he did that makes for a good officer and a safe officer.

Just a few weeks ago, I took my children to the local JBF sale where we met Officer Griff. He came up to my kids and asked them if they had seen Pac-Man. We looked around and then he showed us a tennis ball that he had made to resemble the character. It was so sweet and funny, and I just wanted the San Angelo Police Department to know how much I appreciated that. Mr. Griff showed my children that a police officer is someone who is a safe person, and someone that can be trusted. I will forever be grateful!

I live at the Riverpointe Apartments. 2 days ago while sitting on my front porch, I saw an officer with his lights on, pulling someone over, who just happened to pull into our complex right in front of our house. My son, who is 7, was riding his bike out front. While this officer was speaking with the driver he pulled over, my son went up to him and asked him if he could please see the inside of his car. I explained to my son, who was so excited because the officer allowed him to look, not to bother him while he was working. A few minutes later, the officer was back in his car, with about 10 kids at his window..... The officer sat there and talked to the kids a d answered their questions for about 20 minutes or so. I didn't catch his name, but I would like to tell him thankyou, again, for taking the time out to listen to these children and talk to them! He didn't have to do that, but he did. I respect him a lot for that, and my son is still talking about it. So thankyou again sir......

Throughout my adulthood in San Angelo, I have always found SAPD to be fair and fast. I made an emergency call for service a few days ago and received fast response -- surely less than two minutes, perhaps quicker. It was such a safe feeling I felt when the officer arrived to aid me.

As the commander of the local Texas Air National Guard unit, I had received a number of questions from my troops concerning carrying knives, pepper spray, and other self protection items. Officer Stuart was very courteous and thorough, taking the time to research and verify her answers to all of my questions. Great service!

Officer Upton assisted with a Neighborhood Watch meeting in our area January 11, 2011. As a group we want to express our appreciation to him and the SAPD for his service to the community. It is a useful endeavor to give citizens as much information as possible so that they can assist the department appropriately. He was professional, prepared, and a good example of who should be on the force. Thank you.

Last week my child was getting in trouble at school. In fear of going down the wrong road, I told my child we had to go to SAPD to give a statement of the incident he participated in. Officer Bylsma was at the front desk and agreed to participate in my scare tactic. He gave my child all the facts of delinquents etc. I want to personally thank him for this and taking the time to care. He was so convincing, for a moment I was scared until I remembered he actually wasn't in trouble. THANK YOU!!! I hope this works!

I have to give credit where credit is due. This is in reference to a customer dispute with one of your local Clothing stores (05-28-10). Emotions were running high with a customer and the store staff. Officer Fincher along with two other Officers handled the situation with extreme professionalism. I was very much impressed by their conduct. They are a credit to your department.

I am so sorry but I didn't get his name.
Thank you to the officer that assisted me this morning. He was very kind and helpful. My van died at the intersection of Bowie and 42nd. The officer helped push it out of the way and then looked under the hood to discover why it wouldn't run. I appreciate everything you did and the kindness you showed. It is wonderful to know that we have such wonderful people like you working such an important job. I would like to apologize for you having to be out in the rain and hope you quickly warmed up and dried off. I hope you have a good day and a great weekend! Thank you so much again!

On November 28, 2009, my wallet disappered while I was at Walmart on Sherwood Way. After looking extensively for it, I called the police. The officer who took my statement was very courteous, professional and sympathetic to my situation. In this day and age when lack of respect for authority seems to be the norm, I would like to thank him for his professionalism and let him know that he has my respect and appreciation.
Also, I have attended Adoration at my Church during the wee hours of the morning. I have noticed the police presence on Avenue N (the route I travel) and in the area of the Adoration Chapel. I greatly appreciate this and it makes me feel safer when I go to Adoration in the middle of the night.
Thank you so much to the entire San Angelo Police Department

Officer Herndon pulled me over for a tail light needing to be replaced. I was issued a Fix & Dismiss citation-- but the reason I'm making this compliment is because he was one of the nicest cops I have ever had the pleasure of issuing me a citation. He introduced himself, and even asked if there was anything else that he could do for me. We were all struck by his polite demeanor, and since it was very refreshing and appreciated I thought I'd give him a job well done comment on here, and I will promptly take care of the tail light. Thank you!

Chief Vasquez you are blessed and privileged to have Officer Hill on your force. Officer Hill goes above and beyond the call of duty. I am a student at the university studying criminal justice and as a class project I had to interview a police officer. Not only did Officer Hill answer my many questions for my paper, he helped me with my research for my presentation. It showed me that our city was actively encouraging higher education. Thank you so much for all of your help Officer Hill in supporting higher education!

Received speeding ticket 3/17/09 near Fannin School.
I came off Glenna where speed limit is 45 onto 29th (30) & motorcycle cop followed behind me until I stopped at red light just past Fannin. Only after setting thru the red light & the light turned green did the cop flash me & gave me a ticket for 39 in a 30.
Is that proper? To follow 3 or 4 blocks & wait thru a traffic signal to decide if he's going to ticket me or not....
Seemed very strange, since he made no attempt to stop me at the actual time I was speeding, but after sitting thru the light 3 blocks away...

Officer Hernandez is one of the police officer that come to Glenn Middle School. He is absolutely great not only doing his job but more than that. He communicates with the other students there. He can light up any situation or just bring smiles on peoples faces. He has that certain sense of humor than lingers around him.

I want to thank Officer Palmer for his kindness and sense of humor. I was going a bit too fast in my neighborhood and was pulled over to receive a warning. When asked for my license, I grabbed my Debit card out of my wallet. He laughed and kindly told me that it was not what he needed. We had a great laugh over the fact that the Debit card is what I must pull out of my wallet most often. Thank you Officer Palmer for your good humor and kindness.

After several officers had a busy morning with the
"Shop with a Cop" program on Sat the 13th., they were taking a large group of the kids to Mr Gatti's for lunch. I sort of jokingly asked Officer Dornhecker if he could do an unlock on our "very locked" up car. He almost beat me to the car and had it open in about 45 seconds. He made the rest of our granddaughter's birthday party a lot more stress free. Thanks!!

Friends, I was born raised and educated in San Angelo but have lived in Colorado for many years. Recently my wife and I returned for my mother's 90th birthday. We always enjoy coming to San Angelo, it is a pleasant and beautiful little city. We were heading for our motel Thursday, September 11 when the right front wheel fell off our Jeep liberty on Johnson Street in front of the Verizon building during five o'clock traffic. Officer Doll happened up on the scene and deftly directed traffic and helped us get our wounded vehicle out-of-the-way. He was courteous, professional, and friendly and stayed on the scene until the tow truck arrived. Sometimes I forget how friendly and helpful West Texans can be. Officer Doll reminded me. Thanks, Ron Cosper, Evergreen Colorado

We wanted to convey our deep appreciation to all of you for your hard work done so well!! I am always so proud to tell people in other cities how great you folks are. My personal experience with law inforcement came when my home was destroyed by teenage burglars. I was amazed when in 2 hours you people had identified and had already begun gathering my stolen items!!! I also am very grateful to all the Officers that respond to our neighborhood here on Van Zandt. You people are "TOP SHELF" in law inforcement and as citizens of San Angelo!! God Bless You And Keep You Safe!!

You sure have one gigantic fiasco going on in San Angelo, Tx! How many times is Texas going to repeat Waco? One large scale government raid after another on religious people who seem to be doing nothing more than minding their own business. The so called "facts" of this case (e.g., mystery 16 year old girl) have all but disappeared and what's left makes everyone in Texas look bad.

Entire Police Department and State of Texas
Just wanted to add my personal thanx as well to the courageous San Angelo Police Department and State of Texas for addressing the horrendous situation taking place under the guise of religion on the FSLDS site. Please know there are MANY people across this country who support you whole-heartedly in your efforts to rescue these helpless children and, god-willing, resurrect some sanity in their mothers.
At least in Texas there are still some true Americans willing to take a risk and make hard and difficult choices to benefit the at-risk, the helpless, the abused.

Thank You - everyone
I have been trying to figure out how to send a message to all of the courageous police officers and child protection employees in Texas who had the guts to go in and pull those children to safety. I hope this will reach them.
Words cannot describe my joy at finally seeing someone do something. I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to have the patience
to wait until you had enough evidence to go in "en masse." It must have been brutal, knowing what was going on and not being able to move on it.
I have been reading about these sub-human men for a long time, have followed this disgusting practice of enslavement, brain washing and misuse of public welfare funds to finance their private pedophyle paradise. No less evil than the Talaban, these traitors to democracy, have desecrated the joys and rights of children, and the natural, God-given bonding of mother, father and child. Love is not a word they either understand nor honor.
My deepest thanks and praise go to you all. My prayers go also to you, and to these children, their mis-guided mothers and the generous-hearted individuals who will help them transition into a more healthy, loving life.

Officer Alan Hill and Karen, Dispatcher
While out on patrol last week, Officer Hill noticed that our back door was open. He made sure that our house hadn't been broken into and called dispatch to have them inform me of the situation. I was off-campus at the time and difficult to reach, but Karen, the dispatch officer, made sure I got the message. This type of service reflects very highly on the SAPD, and makes San Angelo a great place to live. Thank you, Officer Hill and Karen!

While I was working late in the evening on night, he noticed my garage was open and took the time to make sure everything was ok.
