Commend an Officer

Everyone likes to be recognized for a job well done and officers of the San Angelo Police Department are no different.  The nature of law enforcement is such that many commendable acts go unnoticed.  When you receive service from our Department which you feel is worthy of a commendation, we would like to hear about it.  You can call the Office of Professional Standards directly at (325) 657-4463 or the employees' supervisor if you know it.  As an alternative, feel free to leave your comment below.

The employee will be notified of your commendation as well as their supervisor and a copy will be placed in his or her employee file.

You may also post productive comments about the department as whole.  Your comment will be posted after review.

Officer Several officers, see message
Message I am an administrator at San Angelo Central High School.  Each day, we are blessed to have SAPD and/or LPPD officers on our campus to assist us in supervising the learning environment.  These officers include, but are not limited to:
Sergeant Dornhecker, Officer Elrod, Officer Ed Smith, Officer Heronema, Officer Chappa (LPPD), Officer Yarbrough (LPPD), Officer Garza, Officer Medley, Officer Delaughter, Officer Anderson (City Marshal), and Officer Nunez (City Marshal).  Each and every day, these fine officers can be counted upon to provide outstanding support to campus students, teachers, and administration.  Their consistently high degree of professionalism and selfless service reflects great credit on the San Angelo Police Department.  We highly appreciate your work.

Officer Todd Dornhecker
Message I would like to commend Todd Dornhecker for making my neighborhood safer, and for doing his job to that end.  While I was working late in the evening on night, he noticed my garage was open and took the time to make sure everything was ok.  My wife and I were very impressed with his caring attitude and professional demeanor.  The Police department should be proud to have a member like him.

Officer Officer Alan Hill and Karen, Dispatcher
Message While out on patrol last week, Officer Hill noticed that our back door was open.  He made sure that our house hadn't been broken into and called dispatch to have them inform me of the situation.  I was off-campus at the time and difficult to reach, but Karen, the dispatch officer, made sure I got the message.  This type of service reflects very highly on the SAPD, and makes San Angelo a great place to live.  Thank you, Officer Hill and Karen!

Officer Butch James
Message We would like to commend Butch James on an outstanding job keeping our Town & Country store safe. He is a very caring and friendly officer. We appreciate you Butch!

Officer Thank You - everyone
Message I have been trying to figure out how to send a message to all of the courageous police officers and child protection employees in Texas who had the guts to go in and pull those children to safety. I hope this will reach them.

Words cannot describe my joy at finally seeing someone do something.  I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to have the patience
to wait until you had enough evidence to go in "en masse." It must have been brutal, knowing what was going on and not being able to move on it.

I have been reading about these sub-human men for a long time, have followed this disgusting practice of enslavement, brain washing and misuse of public welfare funds to finance their private pedophyle paradise. No less evil than the Talaban, these traitors to democracy, have desecrated the joys and rights of children, and the natural, God-given bonding  of mother, father and child.  Love is not a word they either understand nor honor.

My deepest thanks and praise go to you all. My prayers go also to you, and to these children, their mis-guided mothers and the generous-hearted individuals who will help them transition into a more healthy, loving life.

Officer Entire Police Department and State of Texas
Message Just wanted to add my personal thanx as well to the courageous San Angelo Police Department and State of Texas for addressing the horrendous situation taking place under the guise of religion on the FSLDS site.  Please know there are MANY people across this country who support you whole-heartedly in your efforts to rescue these helpless children and, god-willing, resurrect some sanity in their mothers.

At least in Texas there are still some true Americans willing to take a risk and make hard and difficult choices to benefit the at-risk, the helpless, the abused.

Thank you!!!

Message You sure have one gigantic fiasco going on in San Angelo, Tx!  How many times is Texas going to repeat Waco? One large scale government raid after another on religious people who seem to be doing nothing more than minding their own business.  The so called "facts" of this case (e.g., mystery 16 year old girl) have all but disappeared and what's left makes everyone in Texas look bad.

Officer Doll
Message Friends, I was born raised and educated in San Angelo but have lived in Colorado for many years.  Recently my wife and I returned for my mother's 90th birthday.  We always enjoy coming to San Angelo, it is a pleasant and beautiful little city.  We were heading for our motel Thursday, September 11 when the right front wheel fell off our Jeep liberty on Johnson Street in front of the Verizon building during five o'clock traffic.  Officer Doll happened up on the scene and deftly directed traffic and helped us get our wounded vehicle out-of-the-way.  He was courteous, professional, and friendly and stayed on the scene until the tow truck arrived.  Sometimes I forget how friendly and helpful West Texans can be.  Officer Doll reminded me.  Thanks, Ron Cosper, Evergreen Colorado

Officer unknown
Message 12/08 17.25.
Coming home from work my husband and I saw an officer coming north on Bell St stop traffic and put his lights on. As he got out of the car we saw that there was an animal laying in the road.
I know that your depart. is under staffed, and it must be easy to become task orientated with more important issues, but it is wonderful to know that you have kind compassionate
officers.

Officer Todd Dornhecker
Message After several officers had a busy morning with the
"Shop with a Cop" program on Sat the 13th., they were taking a large group of the kids to Mr Gatti's for lunch. I sort of jokingly asked Officer Dornhecker if he could do an unlock on our "very locked" up car. He almost beat me to the car and had it open in about 45 seconds. He made the rest of our granddaughter's birthday party a lot more stress free. Thanks!!

Officer Officer Palmer
Message I want to thank Officer Palmer for his kindness and sense of humor.  I was going a bit too fast in my neighborhood and was pulled over to receive a warning.  When asked for my license, I grabbed my Debit card out of my wallet.  He laughed and kindly told me that it was not what he needed.  We had a great laugh over the fact that the Debit card is what I must pull out of my wallet most often.  Thank you Officer Palmer for your good humor and kindness.

Officer Officer Hernandez
Message Officer Hernandez is one of the police officer that come to Glenn Middle School. He is absolutely great not only doing his job but more than that. He communicates with the other students there. He can light up any situation or just bring smiles on peoples faces. He has that certain sense of humor than lingers around him.

Message Received speeding ticket 3/17/09 near Fannin School.
I came off Glenna where speed limit is 45 onto 29th (30) & motorcycle cop followed behind me until I stopped at red light just past Fannin. Only after setting thru the red light & the light turned green did the cop flash me & gave me a ticket for 39 in a 30.
Is that proper? To follow 3 or 4 blocks & wait  thru a traffic signal to decide if he's going to ticket me or not....
Seemed very strange, since he made no attempt to stop me at the actual time I was speeding, but after sitting thru the light 3 blocks away...

Officer K.L Dye

Officer Officer Alan Hill
Message Chief Vasquez you are blessed and privileged to have Officer Hill on your force. Officer Hill goes above and beyond the call of duty. I am a student at the university studying criminal justice and as a class project I had to interview a police officer. Not only did Officer Hill answer my many questions for my paper, he helped me with my research for my presentation. It showed me that our city was actively encouraging higher education. Thank you so much for all of your help Officer Hill in supporting higher education!

Officer Randall Herndon
Message Officer Herndon pulled me over for a tail light needing to be replaced. I was issued a Fix & Dismiss citation-- but the reason I'm making this compliment is because he was one of the nicest cops I have ever had the pleasure of issuing me a citation. He introduced himself, and even asked if there was anything else that he could do for me. We were all struck by his polite demeanor, and since it was very refreshing and appreciated I thought I'd give him a job well done comment on here, and I will promptly take care of the tail light. Thank you!

Officer unknown
Message On November 28, 2009, my wallet disappered while I was at Walmart on Sherwood Way.  After looking extensively for it, I called the police.  The officer who took my statement was very courteous, professional and sympathetic to my situation.  In this day and age when lack of respect for authority seems to be the norm, I would like to thank him for his professionalism and let him know that he has my respect and appreciation.

Also, I have attended Adoration at my Church during the wee hours of the morning.  I have noticed the police presence on Avenue N (the route I travel) and in the area of the Adoration Chapel.  I greatly appreciate this and it makes me feel safer when I go to Adoration in the middle of the night.

Thank you so much to the entire San Angelo Police Department

Officer I am so sorry but I didn't get his name.
Message Thank you to the officer that assisted me this morning.  He was very kind and helpful.  My van died at the intersection of Bowie and 42nd.  The officer helped push it out of the way and then looked under the hood to discover why it wouldn't run.  I appreciate everything you did and the kindness you showed.  It is wonderful to know that we have such wonderful people like you working such an important job.  I would like to apologize for you having to be out in the rain and hope you quickly warmed up and dried off.  I hope you have a good day and a great weekend!  Thank you so much again!

I was very much impressed by their conduct. They are a credit to your department.

Officer Bylsma
Message Last week my child was getting in trouble at school.  In fear of going down the wrong road, I told my child we had to go to SAPD to give a statement of the incident he participated in.  Officer Bylsma was at the front desk and agreed to participate in my scare tactic.  He gave my child all the facts of delinquents etc.  I want to personally thank him for this and taking the time to care.  He was so convincing, for a moment I was scared until I remembered he actually wasn't in trouble.  THANK YOU!!! I hope this works!

Officer Zack Upton
Message Officer Upton assisted with a Neighborhood Watch meeting in our area January 11, 2011.  As a group we want to express our appreciation to him and the SAPD for his service to the community. It is a useful endeavor to give citizens as much information as possible so that they can assist the department appropriately.  He was professional, prepared, and a good example of who should be on the force.  Thank you.

Officer J Zapata
Message An elderly gentleman wandered into my office stating that he was lost. Officer Zapata responded and, after some dilligent detective work managed to find and contact his daughter. I was very impressed with officer Zapata as to his attitude, compassion, and training. Alzheimers can be difficult to deal with, and the department has obviously given training in that area.  What could have turned out badly on a very hot day had a good ending. My compliments to officer Zapata and to the SAPD as a whole. Thank you.

Officer J Cannady
Message We called the SAPD after we found some of the stained-glass windows broken in our temple, Congregation Beth Israel, on Beauregard. Officer J. Cannady arrived promptly. Although I'm sure he knew there was little he could do, he walked our property, viewed the damage, took information, and acted in a concerned and professional manner. I appreciate his and your department's response.

Officer Motorcycle patrolman
Message 11-3-11

Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29, my daughter and I were were stopped near Target by a motorcycle patrolman, she was ticketed for several things her own fault.  As her Mom I didnot know how things would happen after her arrest, this patrolman was very patient and kind with me and her, (though I am sure he thinks I a bit dumb not being able to understand as he had to explain the process a few times)just wanted him to know I appreciated the way he handled things. Please let him know this. So sorry I can't remember his name.

Officer Chris Mueller
Message Thank you for listening to what is an issue involving neighbors. You were very professional and understanding. Unfortunately, rather fortunately this is the first time I have had the opportunity to thank the SAPD. He did appear concerned and made suggestions for safety and what to do in the future. I do hope that he is recognized for his efforts. He did provide information on how to contact the office if needed in non-emergency situations.
