SAPD Officials Aid Distressed Man on Loop 306 Overpass

San Angelo Police Department negotiators peacefully resolved an incident involving a man on the ledge of the Pulliam Street exit near the 1200 block of North Loop 306 this morning.

Just after 11:00 a.m., San Angelo Public Safety Communications received an initial phone call regarding an unknown problem on the loop.  The caller advised a man was on the Pulliam exit overpass, possibly with a knife.  Shortly thereafter, dispatch received additional calls from citizens reporting the same information.

Initial responding Officers made contact with the man, who was visibly distressed.  Although armed with a knife, the man never displayed it towards the Officers in a threatening manner.

Police Department Negotiators arrived and began communicating with the 35-year-old man, who eventually went willingly with Officers to a nearby hospital.  No one was injured during the incident.  Negotiations took over an hour.

Officials blocked traffic in the area throughout the incident and alerted the public to avoid the area via Nixle alert.
