Just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018, San Angelo Police received a report of two children who may have entered a storm drain near East Avenue G and Burgess Street.
Officers learned that a nearby resident had spotted the children, around six and three-year-of-age, standing near the drain one moment and then go missing.
Personnel from the City’s Water Department also responded and aided Officers by cutting several bars off the drain’s cover. Two Officers crawled nearly forty (40) yards in an attempt to locate the children; however, there were no signs of disturbance in the pipe’s sediment. A remote control camera was also utilized by Sewer Department personnel during the team effort.
The search lasted over two-hours. No children were located and there were no reports of missing children in the area. At the conclusion of the search operation, workers reinforced the drain’s barred-covering as an extra precaution.
Following the search, both Officers noted their soiled uniforms were well worth the outcome and they were happy no children were harmed during the reported incident.
