Press Release #121015(03)-Felon Evades, Crashes during Pursuit

A 30-year-old San Angelo man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he fled a traffic stop that resulted in a vehicle crash with another driver.
Rudolpho Ledezma Casteneda III (DOB 09-05-85) was charged with Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon shortly after noon, yesterday. Police initially tried to conduct a traffic stop on Casteneda near the intersections of Currier St. and Texas Avenue, but Casteneda refused to stop and led police on a short vehicle pursuit. The pursuit terminated after Casteneda disregarded the stop sign at La Cruz and Knickerbocker Road where he collided with a 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on Knickerbocker Rd.
After the Collision, Casteneda bailed out of his vehicle and ran on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued in the surrounding area until Officers apprehended him in a nearby parking lot.
San Angelo Traffic Division Officers responded to the scene to investigate the crash, which caused traffic delays in the area for over an hour. The driver of the Pickup, a 35-year-old San Angelo man, was not injured from the crash; however, his truck was towed to a nearby repair shop due to the damage. Casteneda reported minor injuries from the collision but refused medical treatment. Casteneda was operating a white, 2015 Dodge Charger registered to a San Angelo woman. The Charger was towed from the scene.
During a search of Casteneda incident to his arrest, Police located a loaded 9mm magazine. Police also located a firearm inside the Dodge Charger.
Casteneda was transported to Police Headquarters for interview prior to his final stop at the Tom Green County Jail.
No other injuries were reported from this incident.
