One person dies after two vehicles collide in south San Angelo.   

                               

Today, October 9, 2014 at approximately 04:58 am, San Angelo Police responded to the intersection of S Bryant Blvd and S Jackson Street for a vehicle accident.  Upon arrival, officers observed a Red 2010 Freightliner Semi and a Blue 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the roadway.   The Freightliner was occupied by a 32 year old male driver.   The S-10 was occupied by a 37 year old female driver and mother to the 8 month old female passenger.   Due to the severity of accident the San Angelo Police Motor Section was called to investigate the accident.

 

San Angelo Fire Department responded to the scene for the injured.  SAFD transported the infant passenger, Taela Carter, of the S-10 to Shannon Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.   The driver of the S-10, Treva Hernandez, of San Angelo succumbed to fatal injuries she sustained while still at the scene.  Justice of the Peace Kay Longest pronounced time of death at approximately 04:58 am.   The driver of the Freightliner, Brad Matthiesen, of Rowena was not injured in the crash. 

 

Preliminary investigation shows the Freightliner entered the intersection on a green arrow turning left from S Jackson St. onto N Bryant Blvd.   As the Freightliner was traveling through the intersection, the S-10 was traveling south in the outside lane of Bryant Blvd.  The S-10 entered the intersection on a red light and collided with the Freightliner.    The SAPD Motor Section has received video from a nearby business that captured the accident.

 

The accident is still under investigation and no more details are available at this time.
