Press Release #072215(06)-Morning Traffic Crash, Car Fire in South San Angelo
A San Angelo woman was taken to the hospital for minor injuries after an early morning collision in South San Angelo.
Just after 8:00 a.m., San Angelo Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at Christoval Road and S. Chadbourne Street. Motors Officer Ed. Hunger investigated the crash involving a white 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck and a gray 2008 Nissan Altima.
According to Officer Hunger, a sixty-year-old driver operating the Ford pickup owned by J & J Services was northbound on S. Chadbourne, stopped for a red light at Christoval. When the light turned green, the pickup's driver attempted to make a left turn onto Christoval, pulling into the path of the Nissan that was headed south on S. Chadbourne.
After the collision, the Nissan Altima caught fire in the engine block area. Civilian Contract Security Forces Officer Manuel Hernandez, who was nearby at the time of the collision, responded from Goodfellow Air Force Base and attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher he retrieved from his vehicle. Both drivers told police they had exited their vehicles prior to the fire breaking out.
The Nissan's driver, a twenty-five-year-old San Angelo woman, was transported to Shannon Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her current condition is unknown. The pickup's driver was not injured.
San Angelo Police issued a Nixle alert for the area and blocked oncoming traffic during the investigation. San Angelo Fire Department Personnel responded and addressed the car fire and fluid spills.
The pickup's driver was issued a citation for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.
