Press Release #072114(10)-Thieves Get More Than They Bargained For After Weekend Shoplifting Inciden

A man and woman attempting to steal from Walmart were apprehended Friday evening after a short vehicle pursuit, crash, and foot pursuit that ended in southwest San Angelo.

On Saturday, July 19, 2014, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter on Sherwood Way for the report of a female shoplifter who was being combative towards Walmart personnel.  While enroute, police received an update that the suspect had since exited the store and left the parking lot in silver, Chevrolet Impala driven by a white male.

SAPD Lake Division Officer T. Berrie located the Impala a short time later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Southwest Blvd by Green Meadow but the diver actively evaded police and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the Impala crashed into a vehicle that was parked in the 3200 block of Rock brook Drive.  After the crash, the driver fled on foot.  The female suspect, identified as Felisha Lee (DOB 12-12-87) of San Angelo, was taken into custody at the scene.  Lee, who was injured during the car crash, was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Police quickly established a perimeter of the area in an attempt to apprehend the fleeing driver.  During the search, multiple witnesses told police they observed the suspect enter a backyard of a residence in the 3200 block of Southland Boulevard.

K9 Officer J. Fisher and his Police Service Dog Thor responded to the scene to assist with the search.  Shortly after Thor began a scent track on the suspect, he led the officers to a shed located on the property.  Upon opening the shed's door, police located the suspect hiding inside.  Police ordered the suspect to surrender himself, however the suspect dismissed their commands and attempted to flee once more.  As officers were attempting to take the suspect into custody, he actively resisted them and stated he was armed with a knife.  Once secured, police searched the suspect for weapons but only located a handcuff-key in his pocket.  Once the suspect was placed inside a patrol unit, he began to hit his head several times on the unit's interior bars.  Officers requested medical evaluation for the suspect and he was transported by ambulance to Community Medical Center.  One officer received minor injuries while taking the suspect into custody.

Once Lee and the male suspect were released from medical care, they were transported to the Tom Green County Jail.  The male suspect, who initially lied about his identity to police and hospital staff, was positively identified at the jail through a fingerprint search as Jacob Wood (DOB 11-09-80) of San Angelo.  Wood was charged with Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction, Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle, Failure to Identity as a Fugitive, Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Expired Motor Vehicle Registration, and several outstanding Warrants.

Lee was charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for Tramadol that was located during an inventory of the Impala as well as several outstanding City Warrants.   Walmart personnel recovered the stolen items in the parking lot.  They advised the value of the stolen merchandise was approximately $188.00.
