Press Release #053014(19)-San Angelo Police Locate, Arrest Two Graffiti Suspects

Eighteen-year-old San Angelo residents Jeremiah Sosa and Carlos Mendieta have been arrested in connection to State Jail Felony Graffiti that was done to the Newton Building located at the Central High School Campus, 655 Caddo Street.

 

Police first learned of the graffiti after being summoned to the school shortly after midnight on May 23.  Later that morning, detectives with the San Angelo Police Department's Special Operations Section (SOS) responded to the school for further investigation and developed information about a possible suspect, Jeremiah Sosa.  Detectives located and interviewed Sosa; however, he denied any involvement. 

 

As the investigation continued, the detectives developed more information linking Sosa to the graffiti incident, including video surveillance footage from a local retail store that showed Sosa purchasing the same colors of spray paint used in the incident.  Based off this information, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sosa on May 29. 

 

Police located Sosa just after 3:00 p.m. on May 29, sitting inside his vehicle in front of a residence in the 300 block of E. 29 Street.  Sosa was taken into custody without incident.  During a search of Sosa incident to his arrest, police located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

 

During a search of Sosa's vehicle incident to his arrest, police located several cans of spray paint and writings that matched the graffiti at the school.  Detectives also located evidence that Sosa had an accomplice to the graffiti incident, Mendieta. 

 

Today, May 30, 2014, detectives obtained an Arrest Warrant for Mendieta and located him just after 12:30 p.m. at a residence in the 700 block of E. 17 Street.  Mendieta was arrested without incident.

 

Sosa was charged with Felony Graffiti Worship Burial/Public Monuments/School, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.  Mendieta was charged with Felony Graffiti Worship Burial/Public Monuments/School.
