Press Release #030216(01)-Police Investigate Crash at the Intersection of Grand Canal and S Hwy 277

At 7:30 am this morning, San Angelo Police were notified of a crash at the intersection of Grand Canal and S Hwy 277. A green 2011 Chevrolet pickup, operated by 31 year old Boyd Brotherton, was south bound on S Hwy 277. A gray 2008 Chevrolet pickup, operated by 18 year old Jonathan Taylor was eastbound on Grand Canal. Taylor left the stop sign on Grand Canal to cross the intersection and collided with Brotherton.

Taylor's vehicle came to rest on its passenger side on the north bound side of S Hwy 277. Members of the San Angelo Fire Department had to extract Taylor from the vehicle. Taylor sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. Brotherton was transported to Shannon Medical Center, as well, with non-incapacitating injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Officer M Gesch and Sgt T Dornhecker with the Traffic Division investigated the crash. It was determined through the investigation Taylor failed to yield the right of way to Brotherton prior to the crash.

Brotherton was treated for his injuries and was released from Shannon. Taylor's injuries included broken bones, a head injury, and other internal injuries. Taylor was admitted into the hospital and was in critical condition. There is no further update on his condition at this time.
