Hit and Run Driver Arrested Thanks to Alert Witness

August 6, 2018 — A 56-year-old Tom Green County resident has been arrested on multiple charges after he fled a hit and run crash during today’s busy lunch commute.

Shortly after noon, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a call about a suspect vehicle that was leaving the scene of a crash that occurred in the eastbound lane of the 5100 block of Sherwood Way.

The witness began following the white 2001 Ford F250 pickup, which fled San Angelo and made it to Farm to Market Road 1223, just south of U.S. Highway 87.

Thanks to the witness, Deputies from the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office assisted with locating the vehicle and driver, later identified as 58-year-old Juan Jose Longoria.  Following their investigation, Longoria was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More and Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions.

Investigators with the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Section determined Longoria struck a blue 2013 Nissan Sentra that was stopped at a red light.  The Nissan’s occupants, a 58-year-old female driver and a 10-year-old female passenger, were transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.

In addition to Longoria’s arrest, San Angelo Police issued Longoria Citations for Fail to Stop and Leave Information, Driving While License Invalid, No Insurance, Expired Plates, and Failure to Control Speed.
